Liu Yanzhong, graduated from crop tobacco specialization of Yunnan Agricultural University in 1991. He was promoted to the title of lecturer in 1996, associate professor in 2001 and professor in 2019. From 1995 to 2010, he served as director of the office of Tobacco Science Research Institute and tobacco college.

The main courses in teaching are tobacco leaf preparation and grading and tobacco raw materials. He has published more than 50 scientific research papers, published the monograph "intensive automatic curing house and curing technology of Flue-cured Tobacco" (The Science and Technology Press), and published two national teaching materials for the 21st century: Tobacco modulation and deputy editor in chief of tobacco classification.

In October 2001, he pay close attention to the construction of practice base and strengthen practical teaching links" won the first prize of teaching achievement in Yunnan Province and ranked second. In July 2021, he was rated as an excellent Communist Party member. In June 2003, he won the excellent instructor award in the student extracurricular academic science and technology works competition of Yunnan Agricultural University, and won the excellent teaching worker award of Bolton Scholarship Foundation in 2003 in 2004. In 2012, he won the "Hongyun gardener" award of Yunnan Agricultural University. In 2008, he won the first prize of scientific and technological progress of Yunnan China tobacco industry company in 2007 (Research on ecological environment and tobacco quality of raw material base county of Kunming Cigarette Factory). In 2009, he won the first prize of 2008 scientific and technological progress award of Yunnan China Tobacco Industry Company (Research on tobacco quality evaluation management system of Qujing tobacco factory). In 2010, he won two first prizes for scientific and technological progress of Hongta Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. ("Research on tobacco quality evaluation system and its application", "research and Application on the high difference between two sugars of tobacco leaves in the base county of Chuxiong cigarette factory") and the third prize for scientific and technological progress of Chuxiong Prefecture in 2011 (Research and Application on the high difference between two sugars of tobacco leaves in the base county of Chuxiong cigarette factory). In 2009, he won the third prize of Yunnan Science and Technology Award and scientific and Technological Progress Award (Research on ecological environment and tobacco quality of raw material base county of Kunming Cigarette Factory). In 2010, he won the second prize of scientific and technological progress of Yunnan Province (Research on tobacco quality evaluation management system of Qujing tobacco factory).
